Lemon Twist
The construction brief for this small spaza shop was that it
had to be pre-built for quick assembly on site. Not shown in
the picture is 50m of railway line, which we made out of supawood
and laid in a gentle curve leading up to the shop where it stops
because all the railway workers went to get Lemon Twist to quench
their thirst.
Look-out Tower
Built for a film shoot in an environmentally sensitive area,
the owner of the property asked us to secure the structure so
that we could leave it standing for future use as a game-watching
lookout point.
Lux commercial
Within an existing but half-completed steel building, we had
to prep the area for a 1-day shoot.
Malcomess
For this close-up sequence of a rotating logo, the Director
wanted a real 3-dimensional logo to be shot rather than using
computer graphics, as the viewer would expect.
Moulin Rouge – Sun City
The theme of this event dictated that we should build a large
proscenium arch across the whole performance stage of the Sun
City Superbowl. Extras we also did was the draping and the DJ
booth visible in the background, which had to be able to wheel
around the stage.
MTN Pulse
This was a discussion show for an MTN corporate training video.
Niknaks commercial
A gangsta club interior was created by building a VIP booth
over the DJ booth in a real club. The break-away wall and manhole
were made for special effects shots of people accessing secret
passages.
Nomad
The working title of a futuristic survival epic which required
us to construct an entire farm in the desert, complete with
hydroponic plantations and wind turbines.
Old Mutual road show
This relatively simple set-up had to be erected in Johannesburg,
Cape Town and Port Elizabeth on 3 consecutive days, involving
some clockwork logistics and tireless crew.
Pepsi Dinosaur Eggs
An activation for Pepsi required a clutch of giant dinosaur
eggs to appear overnight in a public space, and then hatch during
the following night to reveal Pepsi vending machines on the
inside.
Retractable Seating
This patented design retractable seating was developed by us
for Botswana Television, to solve their problem with storage
limitations.
Rooms on View – Generation Furniture stand
Although this canvas roof appears to be standing on legs, it
is in fact suspended by cables.
Rothmans commercial
Built on a mine dump entirely from the ground up, this futuristic
façade with pool deck and diving board had to be made on a scaffold
platform to create depth in the pool for a shot where a diver
does a somersault from the top platform.
Scaffold Set
Essentially a performance stage for an event, this structure
doubled-up as the reveal for the product launch.
Shower to Shower activation
To make an impact with wow factor, this shower – complete with
hot an cold running water 24hrs a day – was erected in random
location around Johannesburg and had a celebrity showering in
a busy intersection in the middle of winter.
