Ark Door
We built this section of Noah’s Ark on location in a Game
Farm to facilitate the filming of animals without taking them out
of their environment. The door of the Ark had to open and close
smoothly and be strong enough for an elephant to walk over. The
build had to also match the miniature model of the Ark which was
made and shot in Ireland.
Bakers
For this “Harry Potter” look we used broad pine planks and
sandblasted them to make the long tables and benches look old
and weathered. CGI was then employed to repeat the tables and
fill the hall.
Beautiful Things
The design and solutions company Ngoro’Ngoro was mandated by
the Department of Arts and Culture to create a showcase for the
many and varied forms of indigenous arts and crafts found in
South Africa. We were in turn asked to construct the organic
display modules, lath construction purchase points and the
women’s gallery area, and also the registration points and stages
for the performances. The venue was the lush gardens at Bryntirion Estate next to the unioin buildings.
Brutal Fruit
These two commercials feature a magician “magicking” a
delicious looking drink out of fruit and thin air. The backgrounds
were designed to splash fresh colour on the image.
BTV – Botswana Television
We designed and built the sets for the first 6 shows for Botswana
Broadcasting once their new high-tech studios were nearing
completion in Gaborone. We were also selected to design and
build the set for their daily news, weather and sports broadcasts.
Carlsberg Beer Commercial
We were required to pre-build the entire bar deck area including
feature ceiling, transport it to Durban Marine Parade and erect it
on the beach for a 1-day shoot.
Carnival City commercial
This façade and garden was built entirely inside a bird park so
that the pigeons, who were the stars of the show, would feel at
home and perform for the camera.
Catwalk
Built on location at the aptly named Catwalk Restaurant, this
fashion show ramp with light and mirror effect was designed to
create the sense of the models walking both into and out of he
frame simultaneously.
Computer Foundation exhibition stand
This modular exhibition stand was designed to be used in both a
6X4 and a 3X3 area.
Citroen exhibition stand @ Auto Africa 2004
Being a new manufacturer to this established international
motoring show, Citroen needed to make a big impact with not as
much budget as their established competitors. This stand won the
Silver Medal and sent many designers scrambling back to their
drawing boards to sharpen their pencils.
Crossroads Direct exhibition stand
Another stand designed with 2 possible configurations, so that
the same stand can be re-used at different shows.
Didata hospitality tent @ Nedbank Challenge
The Buffet area and designer seating were custom made to
communicate a luxurious ambience.
Diving Board – Rothmans commercial
This diving board and swimming pool were built completely from
the ground up, on top of a mine dump in order to have a 3600
unbroken horizon line. The action involved a diver doing a
somersault from the top platform. The entire diving board and
pool surround is made of wood.
BBC Egg Race
For the BBC’s yearly technology “survivor”-type competition, 2
groups of 3 scientists were stranded in the desert and tasked
with creating a flying machine from available materials within a
period of 3 days – and then race the two machines against each
other for the grand prize.
Fake Wall – Minerva car commercial
To keep the giraffes inside their environment while shooting this
commercial, we were required to build 30m of fake brick wall and
tar road complete with kerb. The giraffes look over the wall and
into the sunroof as the car drives by.
